Seven kilometers south-west off Larnaca, close to Larnaca Airport stands the Mosque of Hala Sultan Tekke (also known as the Mosque of Umm Haram) overlooking the Larnaca salt lake. It was built in 1816, around the grave of Umm Haram, foster-mother of the Prophet Mohammed and wife of Ubadah Ibn - as Samit a general of Moawiya who was the leader of the first Arabic invasion of the island in 649 A.D. She died during the campaign.
