In the heart of Cyprus, Nicosia, is the Cyprus Archaeological Museum. Within this spectacular museum you can discover the history of civilization in Cyprus from prehistoric times to the early Christian period. The Archaeological Museum of Nicosia consists of fourteen rooms surrounding a square central area.
The highlights include a statue of 'Aphrodite of Soli' which has become the symbol of Cyprus, a collection of gold jewellery, pottery, three limestone lions, two sphinxes from Tamassos necropolis and the remains of the royal tombs of Salamis. Also on display are artifacts found during excavations in Cyprus. For history lovers, this is definitely a museum you cannot overlook.
The museum is open on Tuesday - Friday at 08.00 - 18.00, Saturday at 09.00 - 17.00 and Sunday at 10.00 - 13.00. On Monday the the museum is closed. The entrance fee is 4,50 Euro. There is a reduction of 20% for groups of visitors consisting of more than ten people.
