This museum is located within the Ussher Fort in Accra. The museum was developed by Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, European Union and UNESCO. In the museum, visitors can find information about the slave trade in Ghana. On display are shackles, weaponry, drinking cups made of clay and paintings .
Also on display are paintings showing the treatment of the slaves, the arriving of the Europeans and those who wanted to abolish the slave trade such as William Wilberforce, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, John Russwurm, John H. Lawson, Henry Highland and Samuel Ringgold Ward.
The museum’s opening hours are Monday to Saturday (including public holidays), from 9:00am to 4:30pm.
